Lighting The Edge

6/18/2021-9/15/2021 Avenue D and 4th Street NYC

‘Lighting The Edge’ was a temporary art installation in anticipation and celebration for ‘Opening the Edge’, a project proposed by Jane Greengold. OTE will take down the black fences and transform an outdoor NYCHA space into a community recreational area with a stage, stoop, seating, art, activities, performances and more. For more information check out 'Opening The Edge' and The Design Trust for Public Space. When it comes down I will make mini sculptures to be spread throughout NYCHA in LES.⠀⠀⠀

‘Lighting the Edge’ was a temporary art installation in the future space of the 'Opening the Edge' project created with The Design Trust for Public Space.  We will be attaching transparent colored acrylic in between the spaces of the fences.

As an educator, adding a teaching element to all of my work is fundamental b/c building a better future means creating inspiring and interactive tools for all ages to learn from. By day, when the sunlight hits the plexi, light refractions will be cast unto the space and shift with the positioning of the sun. This installation can be an educational outdoor tool for parents and teachers to educate on light science (ie- Newton) Physics, Earth science/Astronomy (ie -positioning of the sun), design, art/installation and public spaces. While also creating an inspiring space for the community. By night, the fluorescent colors will become luminous from the ambient light adding an additional element of safety and color.

I am so greatful to the Design Trust for Public Space and the team I have been working with for the past few years on the ‘Opening the Edge Project’ for supporting my vision to create a temporary public art installation for the community during the transition of the space! Thank you to everyone involved in making this art installation happen, couldn’t have done it without you all!

NYCHA has very little public art available, I am honored and thrilled to be apart of big changes for underserved communities. Check out all the updates @openingtheedge page!
